Politics: Joe Lieberman Is a Boil

Our dear readers know quite well how fond we are of Senator Lieberman (I-Me). His placing the State of Israel's interests above America's interests has done more harm to Israel than good.

Frankly, we find the repellent little bottom-dweller (in every sense of the word) utterly unbearable. He is a sanctimonious, whining, liar. A greedy shill. A pathetic, craven little man, cowering at every shadow and willing to give up not just his, but our, collective civil liberties to assuage his pathetic, weak-kneed fears.

So, it is with great delight that we at this fine blog announce today that the Huffington Post is reporting that Brave New Films has collected some 43,000 signatures in a petition to the Senate Democratic Caucus' steering committee to strip Lieberman of his various positions of power within that Caucus.

We CANNOT tolerate a leader of the Senate Democratic Caucus who supports George Bush and McCain's War in Iraq. We CANNOT tolerate a Democratic chairman of the Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee who endorses and stumps for McCain. We call on the Senate Democratic Steering Committee to strip Joe Lieberman of his chairmanship and his leadership role.

I should think not! This cowardly lyin' went to Iraq in full body armour with hundreds of ordinary GIs forming a human shield around him to stroll around the marketplaces of Baghdad and had the gall to come back here and declare that Iraq was "safe." In essence, telling the parents, siblings, lovers, children, neighbours, and friends of men and women in the uniform of the nation that it was OK to send their loved ones out there to be shot, wounded, maimed, and killed.

Jowls quivering with faux indignation, Holy Joe screeched and wept crocodile tears over Bill Clinton's sexual indiscretions with an adult woman in a voluntary liaison. Yet he has shed, to date, not a single tear for a million murdered Iraqis, or the 4.5 million refugees, the wounded and maimed. He has not shed a single tear for American soldiers and civilians killed, injured, and suffering because of that Barsoomianly bisyllabic bozo, Jor Jee Bush. Children of both nations have lost their parents, and parents have lost their children. But Holy Joe's children are not in harm's way, so what does he care? His children - Matt Lieberman, his son by his first marriage, Rebecca Lieberman, his daughter by his first marriage, Ethan Tucker, his stepson, and Hana Lieberman, his daughter with his lobbyist wife Hadassah - are all sitting safely in the U.S. out of harm's way.

Matt is, apparently, the head of the Katherine and Jacob Greenfield Hebrew Academy of Atlanta. He's unlikely to be killed or wounded unless the nerdy students of the Academy decide, a highly unlikely event, that he has inherited his father's nasal, complaining whine and decide to remedy such genetic inheritance by machine-gunning him right out of the gene pool.

Rebecca, when last publicized by the NYT, was making $75K p.a. at the New York City Board of Education; but that was eight years ago, and she's probably pulling down six figures now. Although we understand that New York City is probably more dangerous than Atlanta, Rebecca is also highly unlikely to be wounded or killed in the line of duty. It's our understanding that the Board of Ed in NYC may be more highly charged than similar bodies in other cities and states, but we have not heard any rumours of board members offing each other or undesirable employees. Let us fervently hope that she did not inherit Daddy Dearest's vocal chords. If there is one thing that could drive otherwise peaceable people to murder, that voice would probably be it.

Stepson Ethan Tucker is a Rabbi, according to the Jewish Ledger. Fortunately, he is the biological spawn of Lieberman's wife Hadassah, from a previous marriage. As a result, he is not likely to inspire anyone to wound or kill him to stifle the trademark Lieberwhore whine. To his credit, Rabbi Tucker is a committed supporter of Barack Obama.

Daughter Hana, now 20 years old, is in college. Hopefully, her father's vocal chords have died out with him. Otherwise, the poor child might find herself Darwinized, as the Sanctimonious Bleat that is the very life and trademark of Holy Joe is not to be borne by mortals.

While these four Lieberspawn live their lives untroubled by such matters as PTSD, destroyed limbs and lives, TBI, and inadequate health care and lack of support from the warmongers such as Lieberwhore himself who cheerfully send other people's children to die in places they would never send their own sacred spawn, we observe the daily body count in Iraq and Afghanistan and note that Usama bin Laden is still at large and the Iraqis are now demanding a withdrawal timetable from the U.S. Will wonders never cease?

At any rate, if you are as fond of the Liebergasbag as we are, we urge you to hie yourself forthwith to this site and sign the damned petition. Surely there's more than 43,000 of us that would like to see this sanctimonious prick cashiered.

Any feminists or nonfeminist women who might consider censuring us for stomping the pathetic old weasel are advised to consider Holy Joe's sanctimonious support for the right of medical personnel and hospitals to refuse contraceptive assistance to female rape victims. Consider this in the light of Holy Joe's support of Catholic, anti-women's-rights judges John Roberts and Samuel Alito. Holy Joe may pay lip service to women's right to choose, and how could he do anything else given the position of the majority of his constituents on the issue? But his support for women goes no further than his lips. He's pretty sanguine about telling a rape victim to get herself to another hospital if the one the ambulance takes her to won't help her exercise her right to choose.

Women's Rights: Update on Jamie Leigh Jones

Channel WFAA of Dallas/Fort Worth has this update on the Jamie Leigh Jones case. Apparently, all KBR/Halliburton employee contracts contain a clause requiring arbitration instead of litigation of any claims the employee might have against KBR/Halliburton for violation of laws or their rights. This has caused some concern, and Ms. Jones made a good argument at the Congressional hearing today that cases such as hers are ill-served, at best, by arbitration.

WFAA then tells us:

A National Employment Lawyers Association analysis found that an arbitrator ruled in favor of Halliburton 82 percent of the time between Jan. 1, 2003, and March 31, 2007.

Rep. Hank Johnson, D-Ga., has sponsored a bill that would make such agreements invalid in certain cases.

"The deck is stacked against Ms. Jones and others who find themselves trapped in this system, a system that strips citizens of their rights to a jury trial and offers no meaningful avenue of redress," Johnson said.

The rapists, in the course of the rape, ruptured Ms. Jones' breast implants. They must have used a great deal of force - on an unresisting, drugged, unconscious woman. For WHAT?

Jones has started a foundation to help women like herself, more power to her. China Daily reports:

Ten other (female employees of KBR/Halliburton) reported their stories through a foundation Jones began to help women with similar experiences.

Jones submitted a copy of an affidavit from KBR human resources supervisor Letty Surman to the committee, in which she said she was aware of the work environment.

"During my time as an HR supervisor, I was aware that a lot of sexual harassment went on — it was our major complaint. ... I am aware that Halliburton has a policy of sweeping problems under the rug," Surman said in the affidavit.

And KBR/Halliburton spokesworms have the unmitigated gall to claim that Jones' allegations are 'without merit.'

Women's Rights: KBR Rape Scorecard

So the House Judiciary Committee's appropriate subcommittee held a hearing today, CNN reports, on the complaints filed against KBR, the Halliburton subsidiary that has been the recipient of so much American taxpayer largesse in the form of no-bid contracts in Iraq. Which, we understand, has nothing at all, nothing whatsoever (the point cannot be stressed firmly enough) to do with the fact that the current Vice-President of the U.S.A. was, in a previous incarnation, the CEO of Halliburton. Pure coincidence.

The Justice Department did not even bother to send an attorney to answer the Committee's questions and to look the victim Jamie Leigh Jones in the eye. Incidentally, some of the knuckle-draggier of the knuckle-draggers in that series of tubes comprising the Internets have claimed that Ms. Jones was filing a lawsuit against Halliburton/KBR because she hoped to get money from them.

We at this blog opine as how Ms. Jones would probably settle for beating each and every one of her rapists within an inch of their lives, followed by the administration of similar corrective measures upon each and every official at Halliburton/KBR who was involved in the decision to cover up this crime, up to and including Dick "Head" the Veep himself.

Apparently, Ms. Jones was only 19 at the time the crime occurred. Imagine, if you will, your tender teenaged daughter in the hands of these thugs and you will perhaps understand the simmering rage about this crime and its coverup. Imagine your kid being tossed into a shipping container with no food, water, or telephone because she committed the "crime" of being a girl, a naive young girl in her first job.

Ms. Jones lucked out when one decent human being surfaced among the subhuman slime assigned to guard her. He let her use a telephone, she contacted her father, her father contacted his Congresscritter, Texas Republican Ted Poe.

To his credit, Poe called the State Department and requested immediate intervention. The State Department complied, but turned over the rape kit with the evidence that might have been used to prosecute the rapists - to Halliburton.

Poe testified before the committee, saying:

It is my understanding that an Assistant US Attorney interviewed Jamie and that a State Department Special Agent investigated her case. However, the Department of Justice has not informed Jamie or me of the status of a criminal investigation against her rapists. It is interesting to note that the Department of Justice has thousands of lawyers, but not one from the barrage of attorneys is here to tell us what, if anything, they are doing. Their absence and silence speaks volumes about the hidden crimes of Iraq.

In early 2006, Ms. Jones filed a complaint with the EEOC. The EEOC examined the case and rendered a decision in her favour, writing a Letter of Determination that stated Jamie was sexually assaulted by one or more KBR employees, that physical trauma was apparent, and that KBR’s own investigation “was inadequate and did not effect an adequate remedy.”

Still no action from the Justice Department or the State Department. Two years have passed since the crime occurred, and Halliburton/KBR's only response to multiple allegations of rape (details on the other victim here) has been to attempt to force the cases into arbitration, which means, of course, that there will be no public record that other victims can use to assist their cases (depend on it, there are other victims); no discovery process that Ms. Jones can use to prove her case; and no right to appeal.

At today's hearing, Rep. Poe (a good Texas Republican, for those who are trying to allege that this whole thing is a smear by lefties on the purportedly good name of Halliburton/KBR and the Veep) stated that three other women have since contacted his office with similar allegations.

What, isn't it enough for KBR/Halliburton to be screwing the American taxpayer, the nation of Iraq, the Iraqi people, and deity only knows who else? They have to be raping their own employees too? And then screwing them over with arbitration hearings?

Take the bastards to court, establish their revolting practices, strip them of the right to arbitration, and render a judgment against them big enough for them to feel some real pain. The kind of pain these women, their families, and friends are feeling. That would be justice.

Women's Rights: KBR's Rape Scorecard

So, exactly how many women were sexually assaulted by KBR employees in Iraq, anyway? I mean, is there an epidemic going on that we should know about?

Because, according to the Justice Department, approximately one-third of rapes and sexual assaults are even reported, and the number successfully prosecuted is surely lower. Not all reported cases go to court.

At any rate, Victim No. 2 has just stepped up to say she, like Jamie Leigh Jones, was raped while working for KBR in Iraq. In that case, the rape kit that was used to secure evidence that Jones was raped (and that could have been instrumental in convicting her rapists) was turned over to KBR/Halliburton by the U.S. State Department.

You have to wonder how high up her ass Condi Rice's head is. Anyone else out there got a story to tell? Step right up!

HEALTHY, CONFIDENT & OPTIMISTIC

I just came back from seeing SiCKO. What a swirl of intense emotions I felt during that film!

Shame ... I just wanted to yell SHAME SHAME SHAME in all of our "leaders" faces. A small country like Cuba can take care of its citizens. What's up with us?

I felt shame about myself because we in the U.S. are not like the French ... we don't march in the streets ... occasionally, yes. But do our leaders fear us? No. Isn't it healthy for leaders to fear the citizenry? Instead of the other way around?

I mostly felt envy. Envy for those people that do not have to worry about health care costs. You might ask me: "You have insurance, surely you don't have to worry?" Yes, I do. What if I was hit with something catastrophic? I'd lose my house. No doubt. For the last 3 years, my dental bills have been several thousand dollars over what my dental plan covers. Knee replacement surgery? Not sure. I'm afraid to ask.

I live in fear.

It's kind of like the fear of rape. What would it be like to live in a whole world ... not just my little part of the world ... no, the whole world ... what would it be like if we eradicated rape?

What would it be like to have free universal health care?

In this country people used to talk about "conflict of interest" ... isn't the whole system of who will be given insurance ... what health treatments will be paid for ... dictated by health insurance companies ... isn't that a conflict of interest?

I really recommend this film. I was dragging my feet ... I wanted to see it ... but I kept thinking "I'm a poster child for free universal health care. I had a root canal with no anesthesia because I had no insurance and went to a neighborhood clinic. I had an operation under someone else's name because I had no insurance. I didn't get physical therapy when I should have because of lack of insurance. I was sick for a whole year in my twenties because I didn't have insurance ... etc." But I got a lot out of it. Determination to get going and do something. Also, the movie is not just about health care .... it's about a whole way of life. Please see it.

A former member of Parliament talks in SiCKO about people being afraid and demoralized ... that some people in government want citizens to feel that way. "People who are healthy, confident, and optimistic are much harder to rule."
