Politics - Who Put Drugs
in Pat Buchanan's coffee? I mean, why am I agreeing with this guy? He always struck me as being to the far right of Attila the Hun. And all on a sudden he's making sense? Something is very wrong here.
The daily fishwrap carries his column on Iraq today, titled "Phase III of Bush's War," in which Mr. Buchanan excoriates Bush, Cheney, the neocons, congress, and the antiwar movement.
What gives Bush his new cockiness?Buchanan asks rhetorically, then continues with:
The total collapse of the antiwar coalition on Capitol Hill and the breaking of the Congress. He then wambles on about various other things, with most of which I do not agree, but ends with the conclusion that no one is going to stop Bush from launching war on Iran.
Last spring, Bush first vetoed the congressional deadlines for troop withdrawals, then rubbed Congress' nose in its defeat by demanding and getting $100 billion to support the surge and continue the war.
Before August recess, Democrats broke again and voted to give Bush the warrantless wiretap authority many among them had said was an impeachable usurpation of power. They are a broken and frightened lot.
It's really depressing that I seem to agree with him.
