Happy Independence Day!

Hey, everybody! The asshats around me are starting to fire off their rockets in the middle of the fire season. Isn't that CUTE? Will we be forced to flee our homes at some ungodly hour, in our pajamas, cats tucked under each arm?

Tune in tomorrow, same time same place, assuming we fucking survive.

Don't you hate that shit? Boom, boom, boom. I guess the people enjoying this stuff have never lived around, you know, actual guns and bombs going off and people getting all shredded and stuff. Because lemme tellya, ever after, your shoulder blades twitch when you hear that noise. I'm expecting shrapnel fragments.

No, I'm not. The neighbours are idiots, but more in a non-malign, stupid, poleaxed, well-meaning, friendly, idiotic sort of way than actual redneck goobers who run around trying to kill people and other living things. They'll burn all our houses down around our ears, then fling themselves on our shoulders and sob about the loss. Dumbfucks.

So Mitt Romney's big fundraiser in London was held by disgraced and recently-resigned Robert Diamond, former head of Barclay's Bank? Do the teabaggers not see any irony whatsoever in the would-be president of the former colonies going to the Mother Country to raise funds from the SAME FUCKING PEOPLE the first Americans fought against to establish this nation? Where are the cries of corruption and foreign interference when Mitt Romney courts the British banking establishment, on fucking INDEPENDENCE DAY? Where are the cries when the biggest contributor to the Republican party is a guy who makes money off whorehouses in China?

Meanwhile, over at the ongoing Republican War On Women Headquarters, we're reliably informed that yon lout in that pitcher up there, one NY State Senator Marty Golden, is finally ready for the onslaught of the 15th century. Someone please tell him it's actually the 21st.

Because this benighted son of a poop-eating bottom-feeder is proposing to WOW the LayDeez of his constituency by teaching them the fine art of "feminine presence." I have no idea what this fucking "feminine presence" is. Is it another term for poontang?

Mind you, this asshole is one of those guys who think the Fair Pay Act doesn't even deserve a hearing, and votes against increasing the minimum wage or giving the Nice Laydeez some fucking maternity leave or elder care leave, paid, so they can do their OTHER fulltime job as well.

But wouldn't you know the Feminazis got to him, and he has now canceled all those nice classes, boo hoo. No word if he's considering any bills that might actually help low-paid women, but at least he's not gonna make taxpayers cough up to teach people how to climb fucking stairs for chrisake.

And that fucking sack of fermenting poop, @RepJoeWalsh, is actually attacking the military service of a woman who lost two legs and an arm rescuing her mates in the Iraq war. Please feel free to contact his office and tell him to go suck dick. Well, no. Be polite. Just because he's an asshole is no reason for anyone else to act that way.

I can't believe this worthless fucking putz. He wouldn't pay to keep his children fed, clothed, and housed. I mean this guy owes $200,000 in child support, and his kids had to go on welfare at one point. That's TAXPAYER MONEY that he shoud have been paying. He went to court to fight his duty to pay for the children he fathered. He would rather run up lawyers' bills than feed his own kids.

And he wants to take care of his constituents? A man who can't take care of his own fucking children can't take care of anyone else. Don't be fooled, peeps. This guy NEEDS TO LOSE his election. He's a swine who won't even pay his own children's bills.

Mint MorMoney is a Fucking Twat

Jesus Christ, this guy is a complete fucking twat.

And before you get on my case for calling him a Fucking Twat (which he IS), watch the entire video. Anybody here employed over the last 40 years? Remember when life was good, you worked hard, the boss gave you a bonus at the end of the year? Remember what happened around, oh, say, 2000? When companies started outsourcing jobs, and it seemed like raises kept dropping, or being eliminated altogether? And every year you were told there would be no bonus, or a reduced bonus? And then they started implementing performance targets for bonuses, so that it didn't matter how hard YOU worked, if your team, your group, your department, and your DIVISION didn't make their targets, you, the lowly schlub, could just kiss that bonus goodbye?

That's when Bain Capital was making Mint MorMoney all those millions. That's how come he has $300 million or more in his bank account, and you're lucky if you can feed the kids something that DOESN'T have rice, beans, or Hamburger Helper in it.

Well! Hasn't this been an exciting week!

  • Bishop Willard "Mitt" RomneyCare started the week claiming to have created 100,000 jobs while at vulture corporation Bain Capital, but ended it whimpering something about "6,000 jobs."

  • After claiming that Romney won the Iowa state caucus, the GOP had to reverse itself and announce that Santorum actually won (Headline: Santorum easily slides ahead?)

  • Jon Huntsman (who? Oh, c'mon! You know! The guy who was polling at 1% or lower but the media still insisted he was in the race, even while refusing to let Buddy Roemer or Gary Johnson speak!) finally took his two million dollars worth of dental work and three hot daughters out of the public eye by announcing that he's dropping out of the race.

    In a slap-in-the-face to all the "liberals" who love him (because the Republicans/conservatives hate his motorcycling ass with a passion), he endorsed Bishop Willard. WTF, Jon? Y U treat us so bad, after telling us that schmuck was unelectable? Did the Temple Leaders threaten to take away your planet, or what?

  • Rick Purreh finally took pity on a suffering America and took his moronic undereducated dumber-than-the-last-Texas-hick ass back to N*****head Ranch where I guess he's keeping the local coyotes in fear for their lives and asking God "Why? Why me, Lord?" as he weeps incoherently into his bourbon-and-branch.

    Whom did he endorse? None other than "amoral jewelry-debt piglet"* Newt Gingrich, the man with the plan for trinkets from Tiffany's.

  • Meanwhile, the Godbag Faction of the Republican Party met last Sunday to anoint Santorum as their Chosen.

    No, not with santorum, you sick little puppies. In any event, those Fuckus on The Fambly turds, those Christianist Bible-bashers and homo-haters and misogynistic morons of Rightwingnuttia decided that their Not-MittRomney candidate would be Rick Santorum. These assholes were totes backing (P)Rick Perry just last week, so, talk about pivoting on a dime here. Faithless sluts.

  • Perennial punching bag and media slut-moron Sarah Palin apparently has lost even more of her brain to whatever deadly disease was making her spew word salad.

    After being informed that Newt's second wife, Marianne Gingrich, would be interviewed by ABC right after the South Carolina Republican debates, Babble Spice snorted that this would help Gingrich soar. Puzzled media bobbleheads have finally figured out that she meant Newt's amoral and perverse sexual shenanigans might have left him a little *sore,* or something. **

  • Over in Wisconsin, the Recall Walker campaign announced that it had received more (lotsmore) signatures than the minimum required to achieve their aim. Down, down, down goes Snotty Wanker, erstwhile governor of Wisconsin and rent-boy for the Koch Bros.

So, what's the deal, Republicans? Are y'all just tired of being a party, or what? Because this is some pretty weak fucking sauce, here, jes' sayin. I know we here at La Casa de Los Gatos have been saying for a while that President O could just cold phone it in, but, man? Do y'all have to make it so EASY for him? Y'all spent six years telling us he was a weak-ass n*****, a compromiser who caved on everything and apologised to everyone and bowed to foreign leaders and was morally weak. Meanwhile, he's been kicking y'alls asses nine ways to Sunday every day of the week.

I have heard Republicans telling me for six years or more about the fight against terrorism and how y'all are going to follow bin Laden to the gates of hell, and y'all know where he is and will take him out but only if we elect you (WTF? Treason much?). So, do we wanna talk about who might actually have taken bin Laden out? Because, you know, I don't remember that Republican President we had before Mr. Obama, you know, the one that NOBODY seems to want to talk about, I mean, they're *still* talking about Clinton and Carter, but you know, that guy, seems like everyone's done gone and forgotten about him, when he said he didn't care about bin Laden any more, and he disbanded the task force that was supposed to be looking for bin Laden, I don't recall ONE SINGLE Republican saying anything then. Not one word about following him to hell, or they will pay, or none of that shit. No, sir. None a that shit. And now Mr. Obama, he took out that Mr. bin Laden, and he took out that Mr. al-Zawahiri and he took out a whole bunch of these here, what the Republicans was calling "terrorists," round about ten years ago. He took them all out. And what do you suppose our fine Republican friends did about that? Did they say "Thank you, Mr. Obama"? Did they say "Thank you Mr. President, for keeping our country safe"? No, sirree, they did not. They said he illegally invaded a sovereign nation. These people, who had no problem with the US invading the sovereign nation of Iraq, which was NOT involved in any attacks against us, got all upset because Mr. Obama had to send a surgical strike team to take out the man who masterminded the most recent attack on American soil, who was being sheltered on Pakistani territory, by our "allies." Imagine that. Did you think you'd live to see the day when a bunch of "America, right or wrong! America, love it or leave it!" assholes would be more upset about the rights of those who shelter our enemies than about our right to pursue those enemies who kill our citizens?

And when he's not the Caveman-in-chief, he's supposed to be some kind of Superman who is singlehandedly preventing yon teabaggers from getting anything done while shoving unpopular measures down the collective throat of the American people. He's a Marxist, a Stalinist, a Fascist, and an Islamist, he controls the courts (which, nevertheless, stubbornly refuse to rule in his favour on certain issues, why, no one can say). He's using mind control techniques to hypnotize the weak willed sheep who are cowed by his bullish tactics even as they are seduced by the pork he proffers. Geez, no wonder we're obese. Half our metaphors are about spectator sports and the other half about food. Oh, NOEZ!! He's forcing states to take care of sick people, disabled people, poor people, babies and children who might be hungry, starving people, old people! How AWFUL!

What the FUCK kind of world are we living in where these nutbags can turn reality into something resembling sausage, i.e., chopped up, mixed up, and stuffed up a pig's anus? Seriously. There is a styful of pigs on the Republican side of this election. Fortunately, it's thinning. Still, the choices fucking suck.

So it's off to Florida for Mittens and Newt and Rick Santorum and Ron Paul, while the rest of America stabs itself in the eye with a fork over and over and over, just to dull the pain.

Such a shayne punim!

Anybody who dares to say our President "hates white people" has never seen this photo. Mind you, that's probably how his momma would be looking at him, if she were alive today.

And don't start with me on the NDAA. No, I'm not happy about it, but I'm not going to say anything until I've examined it for myself. My President @BarackObama is still the best possible choice available for the job, and I hope I can convince him to explain to me why this law is needed, and what he has done and will do to safeguard the civil rights of Americans and of all human beings, by extension.

In the meantime, if you watched the shitstorm that was the Iowa Republican Caucus tonight, you can see why I support my President. I do not want any of those loons in charge. This country is changing, just as the world is changing, and I wish that change would speed up. But we only get the kind of change and the amount of change that we work for.

Anniversaries


You know what day it is. A day when we should all be remembering those young men and women that we have repeatedly sent into harm's way, by lying to them, telling them they were fighting for their country, or democracy, or freedom, or some such other bullshit.

A day when we should be weeping over the fact that so many of them come home broken in body and mind to a nation that seems to have forgotten all about them, except when it comes time to buy yellow ribbon magnets from China for a dollar or two. A day when we should be doing something about the fact that SO fucking MANY of our vets are unemployed, or homeless, or struggling to get by.

Today is all those things. If you know a veteran? Give them a hug or a thank you, call them up to say hello, take them to lunch or dinner, offer to help them out with something, anything. It could be something as small as picking up groceries, babysitting their kids, polishing their resume, setting up their computer, taking their damn dog for a walk. Do something. Anything. Just to let them know you appreciate what they went through while they were sweltering in a trench somewhere getting their ass shot off or getting water tainted with decaying corpses and rotting food thanks to George Bush, Dick Cheney, KBR, and/or Halliburton.

If you don't PERSONALLY know a veteran, you can always volunteer with one of the many fine organizations that help our vets in various ways.

These men and women risked their lives and their minds and bodies to do what they saw as their duty to the nation. You don't have to agree with their politics or their service to do them the kindness you would do any other human being. Step up and do your bit for them, and remember, in one month's time, a WHOLE LOTTA them will be coming home from Iraq.

If you're a business owner, you can help by hiring them. If you're working for a big corporation, ask them if they're interested in hiring veterans. If you work at a restaurant or other service/retail business, ask your employers if they will offer vets discounts, then publicize those discounts. Everything you do helps.

And, if you're a voter? Get your ass out there, register to vote, make sure all the vets you know are registered to vote. They don't have to vote for YOUR candidate. Just make sure they vote. Offer to drive them to the polls if they're disabled. Help them register by mail. But make DAMN sure they don't vote for Mittens Romneycare, because that miserable plastic-faced billionaire bastard is talking about PRIVATIZING the VA. After G.W. Bush's disastrous experiment with Walter Reed, I don't EVAH want to hear about veterans lying in pools of their own piss while rats run across the floor and mold spreads from leaky ceilings.

Today is also a very sad day here at La Casa de Los Gatos. It is the anniversary of my father's death. Dad fought in WW II, and was on the losing side, initially, so he spent some time as a POW. He came back from the war deaf in one ear, due to shrapnel, and with an enlarged heart. He lived a long, and mostly healthy, life, but his war stories were enough to give us kids nightmares for weeks. And I know he suffered from PTSD, although he was a gentle man who turned it inward into deep depression rather than outward into beating his wife and kids.

Goodbye, Dad. I still miss you so very much. I think I always will. You loved me and you taught me to love myself, even if the lesson took a long, long time to root itself.

Today is also the anniversary of Zingiber's death. For 14 long years, he was with me every moment, a fat, silly, fearful, neurotic, sweet, affectionate, jealous, possessive, overweight lump of love. I miss him every single day. No one has ever loved me the way that fool did. No matter what I did to him — and here I have to admit, shamefacedly, that there were times when he got on my very last nerve, and I did yell at him and torment him in various small ways — he never, ever held anything against me, not even for a second. I could attribute this to his complete and total brainlessness, I guess, but every night when he put his fat, furry little head on the pillow next to me and breathed softly and warmly into my ear, I realized that he might have been as stupid as the day was long, but that was real love in those big green eyes.

I miss you baby. I wish I could tell you one more time just how much.

2008 Elections: John McCain's VP Pick


Looks like Gramps McCain got out of his rocker long enough to host a roast. He claims it was just hangin' wit his homies. We doubt, we doubt.

Who was on the invite list?

  • Bobby Jindal, newly elected Governor of Louisiana.

    Mr. Jindal, who converted from Hinduism to Catholicism, is a creepy, repugnant little jerk who would like to keep an eye (or more) on every uterus in the country. Fortunately, his counsel's involvement with one Jimmy Faircloth, who is tied to the Coushatta tribes scandal and uber-creep Jack Abramoff may dampen our fears of this forced-birther gaining power. Pluses: Appeals to the growing power of teh "brown". Minuses: Are you effin' kidding me?

  • Charlie Crist, Governor of Florida.

    Petulant homophobe and deeply closeted schlockmeister whose primary talent appears to be that perennial Republican quality of gladhanding the hoi polloi while spouting out of both sides of his pencil neck, Crist has a "dubious" at best sexuality. Of course, in our book he's free to do whatever he likes sexually as long as it involves consenting adults (animals can't consent). What he's not free to do is pander pathetically, cover up Mark Foley's inappropriate actions with underage pages:



    and have his thug buddies release "sex tapes" of him making out with his "girlfriend" in an elevator. Jeez. Are you kidding me? She looks drugged and he's clearly looking at something other than her.


    Incidentally, Charlie's beard, uh, girlfriend, is married &mdash only, not to him.

    Pluses: Looks like a movie star. Minuses: From the Old Movie Stars Retirement Home.

  • Dog-torturer Willard "Mittens" Romney.

    Given this pathetic slimeball's inability to connect with any voters with the sole exception, of course, of his fellow Mormons, and the overweening dislike John McCain has for him, we're betting all Mitt's money won't buy him the VP spot.

    Pluses: Could probably fund the entire race from his pocket change. Minuses: Americans tend to like dogs and dislike people who torture them; also, he's a Mormon; his wife spends millions on her hobby &mdash dressage &mdash which probly won't go down so well with the growing financially-strapped sector; his whole family suffers from the tendency to look Stepford-Wifeish creepy; the Mormons have been involved in some truly unwholesome scandals lately.
In other news, McCain served up some 1,173 pages of medical records (finally!) to a handpicked cadre of reporters and gave them a mere 3 hours to thumb through them. No copies, no psychiatric records. Cliff Schecter reveals that McCain had a cancer surgery this February. This is a man who's had FOUR previous oncological surgeries. Did it occur to him that he owes it to the people who might vote for him to keep them informed about his apparently precarious health?


Oh, and recent pictures of him look as if he's wearing a colostomy bag. We know you had some precancerous polyps removed recently, John. Did the surgeon take anything else?

2008 Elections: You Won't Have


Mittens Romney to kick around anymore, huh, folks?

Bring out the violins. We're guessing Mittens' five strapping sons, who have been too busy fighting the war against other Republican nominees to sign up and fight in Iraq, were getting worried about their patrimony.

Who knows, maybe Mitt found a horse's head in his bed yesterday morning. After all, Mrs. Romney has, we're reliably informed, a herd of dressage horses. We're guessing it was not that unkindest cut inflicted on poor Horsey that caused Mitt to come over all verklempt so much as knowing that the million or so that he spent on the beast was wasted once its upper end arrived in his bed minus the other end.

On the other hand, perhaps Mittens is the other end.

Whatever. We're just glad he's gone. Now if only McCain will pull one of his famously abusive screaming shitfits in public and then plotz. Leaving Mick "PopcornFriedSquirrel" Hickabee as the only Republican candidate. Because I'm guessing HickfromtehSticksBee won't go down well with anyone with an IQ over two digits and more than 10 years of schooling.

In an aside, before anyone accuses us of being a fucking snob, Janet Huckabee seems to epitomize a true Christian. Unlike those who pay lip service to the religion, she seems to act on her beliefs. We're atheists here (okay, Los Gatos worship Seelin Cat), but we respect those who do the moral thing, whether because of religious belief or some other reason.

Now blogger MyViewOfIt is a veritable dinosaur to our Kittehhood, but we thought we should link to her to show that Great Minds Think Alike. Or Small Minds Seldom Differ. Or something. Anywho. She writes about how our spy agencies are planning to set up a billion-dollar biometrics database (with, needless to say, OUR billion dollars) just as we did this morning, but with so much less rancour.

Meanwhile, over in another corner of blogtopia (y, Sctp!), that Ornery Bastard at BustedKnuckles warms the very cockles of our collective feline heart by announcing that Willard "FudgePackingMitt" Romney is dropping out of the race. Actually, we wish he'd stayed and McCain had dropped out. We'd love to see if his five sprog could actually get a job, since Daddums was flying through their inheritance with both fists. Or would Mumsy be forced to give up her herd of dressage horses (annual boarding alone PER horse is more than most people pay in housing costs; this does not include veterinary care, insurance, and, of course, the cost of the horse itself. In case you didn't know, dressage horses cost in the seven figures)?

We said it before, we're saying it again. Tornadoes have wreaked some devastation in the Southland, so if you have a few extra shekels to rub together, please send them to the fine folks featured here.

2008 Elections: Oh, NOES1!!1i


Edwards is stepping out of the race. Goddammit. We admired him and loved him for forcing the other contenders to face up to issues like poverty and the breaking of the social contract. We understand - he needed to win a state, and did not succeed. But we still hate that it happened. Who will loyal Edwardsians cast their votes for now? Raw Story quotes AP in claiming that 40 per cent will probably vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton, while 25 per cent will vote for Obama.

We sincerely hope those numbers are reversed, that is, 40 per cent vote for Obama and only 25 per cent for Clinton. Obama has requested Edwards' endorsement, but the Edwards camp has not announced that it will endorse either candidate.

The race is now between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. On the positive side, that is wonderful, that a woman and an African-American candidate are vying for the presidency as Democratic candidates. On the negative side, we wish Dennis Kucinich and John Edwards were still contending, to spur the entire nation on to greater heights.

Jimmy Carter, the elder statesman and former President (and, quite frankly, one of Casa de Los Gatos' alltime favourite hoomans), has come out in support of Obama without actually endorsing him. Given his long and close relationship with the Clintons, he probably won't endorse - unless the Clintons get up to some more borderline shenanigans.

Speaking of Obama, Carter said:
"We have four children with their spouses, we have eleven grandchildren, four or five of them are married, and all of them, except one, are for Obama," he said in an audioclip of the interview on the Wall Street Journal's website.

"I think that Obama will be almost automatically a healing factor in the animosity now and the distrust that relates to our country and its government," said Carter, 83, who was president from 1977-1981.
Meanwhile, in some really heartwarming GOOD news, Rudy 9iu11ani announced that he is stepping out of the race. Good riddance, Nosferatu. Return to the dank halls where you belong, with that strumpety tiara-laden tart of yours. He was a nasty little bully and we're sincerely glad to be shed of him.

AFP characterizes Giuliani's flameout as "from hero to zero." Well, he was not considered a hero here at Casa de Los Gatos, where his wife's nasty practice of demonstrating surgical tools on live dogs incensed us from Day One. We don't even want to think about all the terrible things that happened during his tenure as Mayor of NYC - Amadou Diallo, Louima, Kerik, the pathetic episode with rescue workers and firefighters' worthless communication devices - all because of the greed and selfishness and outright racism of Rudy Giuliani.

Which makes this statement of his particularly ironic, don'tyouthink?
"You don't always win, but you can always try to do it right ... that's what the American people deserve, a return to honesty and substance in our political discussion," Giuliani said.
The schmuck is endorsing McCain. Let's hope it functions like the Kiss of Death.

Hickabee continues in the race, to provide amusement if nothing else. So, on the Republican side, your choices are dog-torturer Willard "Mitt" Romney; John "100 Years' War" McCain; and Mike "Deepfried Squirrel!" Hickabee. What a buncha creeps.

2008 Elections: The Current Political Picture


Well, Barack Obama totally rocked South Carolina, taking 54 per cent of the vote over Hillary Clinton's 27 per cent. We here at Casa de Los Gatos would have preferred that Edwards take the state, but when push comes to shove, we'd rather Obama took it than let Hillary Clinton win.

We feel the Clintons have just gone overboard lately, with their race-and-gender rhetoric, their arrogance, and their assumptions. Yes, Hillary Clinton is still much more desirable as a candidate and as a potential president than McCain, Romney, Ron Paul, Huckabee, or Giuliani. But that doesn't make her our preferred candidate.

Regrettably, our preferred candidate stepped out of the race. Dennis Kucinich, the Mighty Munchkin of Justice, as he's known in some parts of Blogtopia (y,Sctp!) bowed out to concentrate on keeping his seat in the House, which we fervently hope he does because he can help forward the cause of impeachment of the crooks and liars and war criminals who have ripped the country apart for the past seven years.

He served a noble purpose while he was running, though - he forced the other Democratic candidates to recognize the concerns of the progressives in the electorate. He showed up the mass media for the skanky corporate whore that it is. And he paid out of his own pocket to reassure us that, although there are problems with the voting system, our votes are being counted, but we must all strive for greater transparency and oversight of the voting process.

John Edwards has vowed to stay in the race to the bitter end. We really would prefer him to Obama, but there is no denying that Obama is electrifying the voting populace in a way that Edwards can't. We hope with all our heart that Edwards finds a place in the Obama cabinet that might result from the election.

Whatever happens, we don't want Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nominee. Although we were overjoyed when she won New Hampshire, her behaviour - and her political machine's - since that time have been utterly reprehensible. She's using a mighty political machine to steamroller voters, just as the Republicans have done for the past X years. And we don't want that. We sense that the voting populace at large is tired of it also. And we refer you to this excellent and highly readable post by Ms. Manitoba to prove our point.

When Barack Obama's supporters said they would not vote for Clinton, we were somewhat disappointed at first. We strongly feel that Democrats should hang together, and whoever the nominee is, we should vote for them. But the Clintons' shenanigans force us to see the declaration in a new light. And we now feel that it is correct to throw down the gauntlet and let the Clintons' political machine know that it's not going to steamroller the millions of young voters, progressive voters, female voters, minority voters in this country who are hungry for a change that Clinton, with her corporatist lackeys and lobbyist allies, will never provide.

So the race is now down to Obama (leading), Clinton (trailing, and, we hope, losing), and Edwards (hopefully, he'll take potential Clinton voters as she continues to enrage and annoy the voting public with her underhanded behaviour).

On the Republican side, things are looking pretty grim for cross-dressing manwhore Rudy Giuliani, who has been beaten soundly by Ron Paul in several states now. He's trailing Romney, McCain, Huckabee, and Paul, in that order. In Florida, where he concentrated all his efforts, ignoring South Carolina and Nevada, he appears to be headed down to a stunning loss - a loss so deep, it'll take decades for him to dig out of it. That's good. We don't need another autocratic, high-handed, obnoxious, bullying blowhard in the highest office of the land, or even anywhere near it. Go back to your speechifying, Rudy, rake in the bucks from your fellow Republicans who'll pay to hear you lie about your role on that fateful day, September 11th, as you continue to cover up your cronyism, your expending public monies on your various mistresses, your adultery, your unprincipled behaviour, your lies, and hopefully, your woes. You don't deserve a good life, buddy.

Fred Thompson, the brief darling of the mainstream conservatives (yes, the same who courted the religious right's vote while spitting on its voters) has vanished without a trace. No one seems to have noticed. He was a lazy jerk with a trophy wife half his age and no interest in serving the people whatsoever. Back to Hollywood, Fred. We hope you fail to land any significant movie/TV parts and are reduced to doing commercials for Viagra and hemorrhoid creams, like your predecessor, also-ran Bob Dole.

Duncan Hunter, another also-ran, dropped out before Thompson, presumably because a jail cell with his name on it was calling out for him. Given his role in the bribery and corruption scandals of Duke Cunningham and Jack Abramoff, he couldn't leave the political arena too soon for us. Have a nice time in jail, old son, and we hope you're getting the real deal and not some Club Fed cell.

Tommy Thompson, another also-ran, apparently left the campaign to change his adult diapers and never returned. Good riddance to bad rubbish, we say. Again, no one really seemed to notice that he was campaigning or when he left.

The less said about Sam Brownback, the better, so we will say less. Incidentally, while the worthless son-of-a-turtle might have given Hickabee a run for the evangelical vote, he -- unlike Hickabee -- was a corporate stooge, not a populist, and we're glad he's gone.

That leaves McCain, Romney, and Hickabee. We know that the Republicans hate Hickabee with a passion because he grew up poor and espouses populist positions. A Yahoo News article states, in part:
Rush Limbaugh couldn't be clearer - supporting former Governor Mike Huckabee's presidential campaign is a really bad idea if you are a true Reagan Republican. In his opinion, Huckabee's nomination would mark the end of the Republican Party as he knows it. And Limbaugh isn't alone: Fellow talking head Sean Hannity and a whole host of conservative talk radio hosts love to pummel Huckabee and fellow candidate John McCain. The hate formerly reserved for Democrats Bill and Hillary Clinton, Al Gore and Howard Dean is now directed at Republicans like Huckabee and McCain.
He doesn't have a problem with raising taxes on the rich to pay for better social programs, and has espoused improvements in education, health care, and social welfare, all seen by wealthy conservatives as unnecessary pandering to the poor and working class. Hickabee has the fundie Christian vote and he's striving for the backward racist vote as well, and we believe he has a better chance of attracting that than either Romney or McCain, unless Paul has that vote sewn up tight.

Still, that's not going to win him any significant number of the all-important independents and conservative Democrats that he must win for a realistic shot at the presidency. So I think we can safely say goodbye to him and his dog-torturer son. We won't be shedding tears.

McCain's involvement with the S&L scandal will hurt him among middle-class, working-class, and poor voters with long memories. However, they're not a significant proportion of the electorate. But there's more. Most conservatives distrust McCain because he has held positions that they don't agree with, and has only recently come around to the "accepted conservative wisdom." Hah! They're working to swiftboat him already. See the Council of Conservative Citizens (no link, they're fucking crazy) on the topic.

Many independents don't trust McCain because they remember when the Shrub's minions stabbed him in the back, and they also remember when he showed up to kiss the Shrub's baboon ass in public and without shame. They also remember how he once (in his "maverick" days) reviled Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson for the loony extremists they were, and now, in his nakedly wretched desperation to win the Presidency, kisses their asses in public. Anyone who dislikes the situation in Iraq must be feeling trepidation at McCain's comments about staying there for hundreds of years.

And finally, young voters have no connection at all to the man, because they are in the greatest danger of being drafted, and he's a warmonger. Because they grew up in a world that is half a century away from the world in which he grew up. And we also believe that there is a strong and rising fear out there that McCain is simply too old. He might not live out a term. Heck, he might not even live out the election. He looks old. He looks redfaced and tired and balding and sometimes he opens his mouth and says things that sound borderline senile.

So he might win the nomination, but we very much doubt he can win the election.

Finally, Romney is the darling of the business sector of the Republican party, but he cuts no ice with the evangelical Christians. Currently, reports are claiming that Romney is the most hated of all candidates. Non-Mormons mostly view Mormonism as a bizarre religious cult, with its emphasis on oppression of women, polygamy, and conversion of people without their knowledge or consent.

Interestingly, it's still all up in the air, and Super-Tuesday won't decide the winning candidate for either side. So your vote really does count, this time, for the first time in a long time. This time, you make or break the election. So get out there and vote, whoever your candidate is. Take your Mom or Dad or Grandma to the polls with you. Promise your colleagues you'll buy a round at the local bar or bagels for Friday breakfast if they'll bring in their proof of voting. Give your neighbour a ride, even if she's voting for a candidate you hate. Volunteer to be a campaign worker or a poll observer or just to pick up elderly people and schlep them to the caucuses or whatever.

Let your voice be heard!

Politics: YARS


That stands for "Yet Another Republican Sleazebag." Or "Sex Criminal," if you prefer.

Geez, louise, what is with these guys? They're almost all guys so far. I mean, there's Katherine Harris puttin' the moves on some young fellow, but hey, he's over the legal age, I think, and everyone knows Harris is fruity as a nutcake.

But it seems like we keep turning up stories of notable Young Republicans being busted for various totally sleazoid sex crimes. What is this, some kind of trend? You guys think if you want cover for your sex crimes, you should just join the Republican party and try to become some kind of youth leader?

Republican friends (yes, we have a few) tell us that the reason these scandals seem disproportionately Republican is, the Democratic party just lets it all hang out and approves of this stuff, so it's not a scandal when they get busted. We got a few words for y'all: Mark Foley, Larry Craig, Ted Klaudt, Ted Haggard, David Vitter - don't make us go on, OK? These guys are whoremongers, rapists, pedophiles, and sluts. And it's because they belong to communities that criminalize healthy natural loving sex and sexuality, not because they're all such fucking saints and just "happened" to trip and fall and land on some other guy's dick. Sheesh!

Anyway. On to your latest and greatest scandal. Ex-aide to Willard "Mittens" Romney and outstanding young Iowa college Republican Matthew Joseph Elliot, who actually had the gall to run for a seat in the Iowa state legislature, has been arrested for sexually exploiting a minor.
West Des Moines police arrested Elliott while they were investigating the death of 7-month-old Alexis Gilbert, according to KCCI8-TV, found dead in her family's home where Elliott was staying. Elliott has been questioned, but not charged in relation to her death, which has been ruled a homicide. Gilbert's mother, Kristina, is 16 years of age, and her family has refused to explain Elliott's relationship to the family, according to the Des Moines Register.
Charming. The Iowa Sex Offender Registry, which lists Mr. Elliot among its featured members of the community, states that the age and gender of his victim are "unknown." Let's hope it was the mother or grandmother of the dead child, and not the child, with whom Mr. Elliot was involved.

Sheesh, these people make us ill.

2008 Elections: Romney Takes Michigan


Well, it's official. Mitt Romney now has Michigan and Wyoming. McCain has New Hampshire. And Huckabee has Iowa. They're heading on to South Carolina next.

This is great. I just hope Edwards takes SC resoundingly, and if Ron Paul and Kucinich can take one state each, that will keep the elections in a good state of flux. The pundits will have to keep their cakeholes otherwise occupied - hopefully they like the peppermint flavour of shoe soles.

In other news, MSNBC has the gall to opine that allowing Dennis Kucinich into the Dem debates is an infringement on their journalistic freedom. They wouldn't know journalistic freedom if it bit them on their collective pasty white ass.

Hillary Clinton's campaign has been marred by her advisors' - and her own - racist attitudes. However, sharply worded rebukes from various Dem factions have led to her and Obama promising no further slime.

We still think John Edwards has the best political positions and is the most electable of the current high-profile candidates.

As for the republicans, we sincerely hope the voting public wakes up and sees John McCain for what he is. You can read about McCain's involvement in the savings & loan scandal here. We don't like McCain's nasty temper - legendary in the halls of the Legislature - but we're willing to overlook it. We're even willing to believe he reformed after the Keating S&L scandal involvement. What really puts our back up about McCain is the way he panders to Bush and the fundie rightwing nutcases, after Bush stuck it to him and slandered him and his family. Watching McCain kiss Jerry Fallwell's blubbery ass drove the final nail into the coffin.

Well, on to Nevada and South Carolina. We'll see what the next month brings.

Politics: The Republican Candidates


Holy moly, whatta buncha losers. Let's inspect the cattle of the cattle call. What do we know about these people?

Mike Huckabee - governor of Arkansas, a benighted state if ever there was. To the far right of Attila the Hun, judging from information available at On The Issues. A brief summary: No reproductive rights, compares abortion to slavery, no consensus on the issue, no stem-cell research. He wants to get rid of the IRS (how will Government, military, etc., be supported?) and DHS. No civil rights for any minority. Pro-Israel, aggressive foreign policy. The only pluses I can find for this guy: (1) some pro-environment credentials (Athenae over at First Draft thinks NOT) and (2) he seems to want energy independence. Otherwise, he's a bible-thumping huckster with all the charm of a snake-oil salseman who wants to get his nose into every woman's panty drawer.

Rudy Giulani - former mayor of NYC. Grandiose, delusional, philandering, multiply-married transvestite liar with ties to the mob. Appointed close friend Bernard Kerik commissioner of NYPD. Kerik is currently under indictment for mail fraud, wire fraud, and other ethics issues. Employs Monsignor Alan Placa, who a grand jury report found to be involved in child sexual abuse and covering up other priests who had comitted child sexual abuse. Used the NYPD as a taxi service to chauffeur his mistress around town (while still very publicly married); and as dog-walkers for his mistress. Public funds were used for this purpose. He also took a security detail with him to various trysts with his mistress, on the taxpayer's dime, and had the NYPD chauffeur her friends around. Just the kind of guy I'd trust with the Treasury. NOT.

Willard "Mitt" Romney - member of a cult that is almost as wacky as Scientology, but more pro-corporate. No, wait, he's more than just a MEMBER. He's the Mormon equivalent of a Catholic bishop. See Jesus' General for the full story and the usual trenchant analysis. Mitty is beyond belief. First off, what grown adult person uses a nickname? Secondly, WHAT a fucking nickname! If I had a nick like "glove," I'd change it right quick. What's wrong, Willard, wouldn't Will work just as well for you? Third, this guy doesn't have the first clue about anything but pandering. At present, some 60+ per cent of the American people do not support the war in Iraq, and approximately the same number do not support Guantanamo. Yet Mitty wants to double Guantanamo. He thinks his sons' riding about America trying to get daddy elected Prez is exactly like what soldiers are doing putting their lives on the line in Iraq and Afghanistan. And, on top of everything else, he's a psychopath. Anyone who can treat a dog the way Mitt Romney treated his does not deserve a position of power. Plus, what's with kissing the asses of the G.H.W. Bushes? And the Barbie wife?

Fred Thompson - is this guy for real? First off, he sounds like he's on the verge of falling asleep. That'll win the youth vote, fersure. Then he's got the obligatory blonde trophy wife who's like, what, a quarter century younger than him? Women voters are not going to like that much. Add to that the fact that he's spent most of his life working in Washington, D.C., or Hollywood, CA. - neither of them exactly fitting the "small-town, folksy" image he tries to project with his bogus truck-drivin' (see Glenn Greenwald for an excellent analysis of the Mighty Bogue of Freddie T); and that he's been a lobbyist for some causes (like abortion rights) that your average fundie would scream hysterically about. I foresee a quick exit from the stage, and soon.

Duncan Hunter - he's tied to Duke Cunningham, okay? 'Nuff said. He might be following in Teh Duke's footsteps, like his friend Jerry Lewis.

Alan Keyes - the perennial Black Republican candidate. One of only a hundred or so, it's an exclusive club. The less said about this wacko bigoted homophobe godbag "family values don't include my lesbian daughter" nutjob, the better.

Tom Tancredo - the nutjob's nutjob. A mean, nasty, tyrannical, cheating, lying - oh, yeah, that would describe all the candidates. Never mind. To quote Slate magazine,
A cynic might wonder whether Tancredo's proposal to take out the two holiest sites in Islam is a pathetic bid for attention by a candidate whose support among Republican voters is stuck at 1 percent, below Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former Health and Human Services Secretary Tommy Thompson, and Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback.
Since Brownback and T. Thompson have dropped out of the race, one can only hope that virulent nutbag and worm impersonator Tancredo will soon do the same.

John McCain - it says a lot for the sorry state of the candidates that John McCain (whom I once greatly respected, but who has turned into the worst kind of whore, pandering to everybody, and even kissing up to the man responsible for the vicious attacks on McCain's family) is the sanest and most palatable of the candidates. At least he's not mean and borderline psychopathic like most of the others. Praising, as it were, with faint damns.

Ron Paul - We here at TPC don't agree with many of Paul's positions. However, we emphatically do not agree with the corporate paymasters of the media trying to block this, or any other, candidate. The people vote for their president, not the lobbyists, not the corporations, not the media. We're happy to see Paul doing so well with the people. We do confess to agreeing with some of his positions, but his stance on civil rights and women's reproductive rights is a dealbreaker. Check out his stated positions and decide for yourself. Pluses: he's not a screaming homophobe, like so many of the other candidates; no major scandals apparent; pro-Constitution; ACLU gives him a 67 per cent rating, so his voting record on civil rights is mixed. He's no Strom Thurmond. Anti-death penalty. Pro-medical marijuana. Cognizant of the discriminatory effect on minorities of current drug legislation. So, overall, a mixed bag.

Politics: The Media Anoints The Candidates


Or not. We here at Casa de Los Gatos are no Ron Paul fans, but we really think that the media is going too far in promoting Giuliani and denigrating Paul. We don't agree with a lot of Paul's positions, but clearly he's saying something people want to hear.

At issue here is the fact that, in a democracy, the will of the people determines the winner of an election. Not the will of the mainstream media, not the will of lobbyists, paid shills, corporations, the existing power structure, the political machine.

Paul has said that he is flatly opposed to the Iraq occupation. Right there, he is siding with the majority of Americans who want the war ended. He is also pro-medical marijuana. There, he is in tune with a number of people who use marijuana for relief of chronic pain. His insistence on adherence to the Constitution must resonate with the populace who, for seven long years, have witnessed Bush and the Republicans treat the founding document like a piece of toilet paper.

He is articulate, unwavering in his opinions (unlike Mitt Romney the flip-flopper, Giuliani the panderer and McCain the political whore), and principled. What's not to like?

Okay, I don't like his stance on abortion. But I also don't like conservative commentator Joe Scarborough's hysteria over the recent fundraiser that netted Paul millions:
Scarborough noted the significance of the Guy Fawkes tie-in, explaining, "I don't know if you saw V for Vendetta, but Guy Fawkes is a guy that tried to assassinate some king -- King Henry or King George or King -- James! ... So I guess that's a libertarian thing to do. Try to assassinate kings. And so they had a celebration of this dastardly act."
It would appear that our media is as ignorant as our political class. Don't they realize that the movie V for Vendetta is supposed to rouse an abject apathetic populace against a criminal and oppressive ruling class?

Sort of like what we're going through today with King George. Sort of what this country went through at it's founding with another mad King George. Revolution is what this country was founded on.
That to secure these rights, governments are instituted deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it and to institute new government laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their safety and happiness. That is a ringing call to the people to ensure that their wishes are truly reflected in the composition of those that they choose to govern them. Ron Paul is saying something that the people want to hear. Instead of being terrified of him, why don't you, the mainstream media, talk about how you anoint certain candidates and refuse others the slightest coverage? Instead of labeling Paul crazy, or telling us for the umpteenth time about Edwards' hair or Hillary's cleavage, start telling us their positions on the issues. What do they plan to do about the crashing economy? Inadequate healthcare? Inflated CEO salaries? Stagnation of working people's wages? The housing market crash? The coming credit crunch? The ridiculous price of gas? Global warming? "Free" trade agreements?

Give us some news we can use, guys. We're sick of the pap you've been feeding us all these years.

Politics - The Romney Boys


Well, draft-dodger Mitt Romney has certainly proved to have a tin ear. When questioned recently by a woman whose brother is serving in Iraq about why his five military-age sons have not volunteered for a war he supports unequivocally, Mitt's response was:
BETTENDORF, Iowa -- Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Wednesday defended his five sons' decisions not to enlist in the military, saying they're showing their support for the country by "helping me get elected."

Good News for Romney's Sons

Mitt Romney pats himself and his sons on the back. Wouldn't it be nice if all our sons and daughters had a choice like his sons do? The Huffington Post reports on Romney's sons:
Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney on Wednesday defended his five sons' decision not to enlist in the military, saying they're showing their support for the country by "helping me get elected."

Romney, who did not serve in Vietnam due to his Mormon missionary work and a high draft lottery number, was asked the question by an anti-war activist after a speech in which he called for "a surge of support" for U.S. forces in Iraq.

"The good news is that we have a volunteer Army and that's the way we're going to keep it," Romney told some 200 people gathered in an abbey near the Mississippi River that had been converted into a hotel. "My sons are all adults and they've made decisions about their careers and they've chosen not to serve in the military and active duty and I respect their decision in that regard."

He added: "One of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping me get elected because they think I'd be a great president."

Romney's five sons range in age from 37 to 26 and have worked as real estate developers, sports marketers and advertising executives. They are now actively campaigning for their father and have a "Five Brothers" blog on Romney's campaign Web site.

Romney noted that his middle son, 36-year-old Josh, was completing a recreational vehicle tour of all 99 Iowa counties on Wednesday and said, "I respect that and respect all those and the way they serve this great country."

The woman who asked the question, Rachel Griffiths, 41, of Milan, Ill., identified herself as a member of Quad City Progressive Action for the Common Good, as well as the sister of an Army major who had served in Iraq.

"Of course not," Griffiths said when asked if she was satisfied with Romney's answer. "He told me the way his son shows support for our military and our nation is to buy a Winnebago and ride across Iowa and help him get elected."
