Politics - Now There's A Democrat With Spine!

Fortney "Pete" Stark, I luvs ya, baybee. He told his colleagues, alright. Yup. Told them where exactly the boot was gonna go, and would they please just bend over so he could get it done with. Here's part of the transcript:
First of all, I'm just amazed that they can't figure out-- the Republicans are worried that we can't pay for insuring an additional ten million children. They sure don't care about finding $200 billion to fight the illegal war in Iraq. Where are you gonna get that money? You gonna tell us lies, like you're telling us today? Is that how you're going to fund the war? You don't have the money to fund the war or children, but you're going to spend it to blow up innocent people, if we could get enough kids to grow old enough for you to send to Iraq to get their heads blown off for the President's amusement.
Go see and hear the rest of it right heah. Raw Story has the video and the transcript.

Pete's not afraid to call bullshit when he hears it! Wish Dianne Fucking Feinstein would get a spinal transplant. All that bitch does is look for new ways to protect the Chimptard and his shrieking coterie of madmen.

Paul Krugman defends Graeme Frost

I'm so happy that there are good writers out there in the media who are sensible thinkers and moral people ... all rolled into one. I'm grateful. I think Paul Krugman who writes for the NYTimes is one of those people.

He has written an essay that is thoughtful and smart about how the Republicans + Right tried to smear this 12 yr old boy, Graeme Frost, who delivered the Democratic response to Bush's Saturday radio address a couple of weeks back. The talk was about the S-CHIP business. The Krugman essay is really such a good response itself. I urge you to read it ... he really makes the case (do we need another one?) about how Republicans + Right do not engage in honest debate. An excerpt:
All in all, the Graeme Frost case is a perfect illustration of the modern right-wing political machine at work, and in particular its routine reliance on character assassination in place of honest debate. If service members oppose a Republican war, they’re “phony soldiers”; if Michael J. Fox opposes Bush policy on stem cells, he’s faking his Parkinson’s symptoms; if an injured 12-year-old child makes the case for a government health insurance program, he’s a fraud.

Jon Stewart: "I thought this type of thing was only done by cartoon villains"

And, folks, we gotta chuckle ... otherwise, we would go totally insane. Here's Jon Stewart's take on Bush's veto of the SCHIP program:

Bush spends like a drunken sailor ...

Eugene Robinson had a really good opinion piece in yesterday's Oakland Tribune about Bush's veto of the *bipartisan* bill reauthorizing and expanding the State Children's Health Insurance Program (SCHIP). He said that Bush spends money like a drunken sailor but when it comes to providing health insurance to needy children he becomes all "fiscally responsible" on us. He also argues against Bush's disingenuous or downright faulty reasons for vetoing the bill. (To read the full article, go here.)

Robinson goes on to state that there's broad consensus for reauthorizing the program.
According to a Washington Post/ABC News poll released this week, 72 percent of Americans supported the bill Bush vetoed.
The Senate has enough votes to override Bush's veto. Congress is another matter. About 15 Republicans and eight Democrats would have to change their votes to override the veto in Congress. Voting will happen on Oct. 18.

The Republicans are being targeted with ads and letters to change their votes. These are:
  • Marilyn Musgrave of Colorado
  • Sam Graves of Missouri
  • Steve Chabot of Ohio
  • Tom Feeney of Florida
  • Tim Johnson of Illinois
  • Rodney Alexander of Louisiana
  • John Boozman of Arkansas
  • Barbara Cubin of Wyoming
  • Kay Granger of Texas
  • Drake of Virginia
  • Robin Hayes of North Carolina
  • John "Randy" Kuhl and Thomas Reynolds of New York
  • Timothy Walberg and Joe Knollenberg of Michigan

The Democrats who voted against the bill are not being targeted with ads ... well, I guess their own party members will twist their pinkies to get them to change their votes.

If you're from any of those states, it'd be real nice if you dropped those members of Congress a line. Please ask them to support the bill.
