Consumer Alert: Mattel Recalls Mexico-Made Toys

The EU has required Mattel, Inc., the world's largest toymaker, to recall some 155,000 toys made in Mexico because small pieces can detach from the toys and cause children to choke, Reuters reports.

According to a Mattel official,
"The products concerned are Laugh & Learn and Learning Kitchen Toys, which are part of the Fisher-Price range,...".
EU Consumer Protection Commissioner Meglena Kuneva is traveling to the U.S. to discuss the issue with the U.S. official in charge of CPSC - Nancy Nord, whose resistance to expanding her agency, better staffing or funding, or protection of the consumer at all, should prove an interesting counterpoint to her EU counterpart.
