Iraq - Oil For Haifa?
Via Raw Story comes news from Haaretz that the U.S. is planning to pump oil from Iraq to Haifa (in Israel) by way of Jordan.
The Prime Minister's Office, which views the pipeline to Haifa as a "bonus" the U.S. could give to Israel in return for its unequivocal support for the American-led campaign in Iraq, had asked the Americans for the official telegram.Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mosul is one of the parts of Iraq that has not been "pacified," i.e., beaten into submission. Iraqi insurgents control large stretches of the area through which this pipeline must pass?
The new pipeline would take oil from the Kirkuk area, where some 40 percent of Iraqi oil is produced, and transport it via Mosul, and then across Jordan to Israel. The U.S. telegram included a request for a cost estimate for repairing the Mosul-Haifa pipeline that was in use prior to 1948. During the War of Independence, the Iraqis stopped the flow of oil to Haifa and the pipeline fell into disrepair over the years.
There are times when I think this Misadministration is composed solely of insane people who are trying to start a global war in order to immanentize the Eschaton (this has nothing to do with Atrios, rather it's a theory put forth by Robert Anton Wilson in Illuminatus!).
Then again I remember that Dick "dick" Cheney and Stupie McPoopyhead are both puppets of the oil industry, and I'm relieved (only slightly) to realize it's sheer human greed and viciousness at work again, rather than sinister fnord-hiding motivations. Great Ctulhu!
Can you think of a single action more likely to unite the various warring factions of the Middle-East? I'm reminded of Tom Lehrer:
Oh, the CatholicsYou gotta laugh at this stuff or you'll cry.
Hate the Protestants
And the Protestants
Hate the Catholics
And the Hindus
Hate the Muslims
And everybody hates the Jews
