Politics - Why Oversight Is Necessary

If anyone complains to you that the Democratic-majority Congress is "going after" Commander Bunnypants and suffering from BDS (Bush-Despising Syndrome), point them to this article at Bloomberg which details how the Pentagon has been paying millions of dollars for items worth a dollar or two:
The owners of C&D Distributors in Lexington, South Carolina -- twin sisters -- exploited a flaw in an automated Defense Department purchasing system: bills for shipping to combat areas or U.S. bases that were labeled ``priority'' were usually paid automatically, said Cynthia Stroot, a Pentagon investigator.
The Republican rubberstamp Congress didn't bother to exercise oversight of any of this, because they were too busy lunching with their K-Street cronies and stuffing their pockets with taxpayer financed largesse. And now Ted "Bridge to Nowhere" Stevens is bleating about how the press is assassinating him.

Anyone found to have ripped off the government (and thus the taxpayers) in this shameless fashion should first be forced to cough up all the ill-gotten gains down to the last penny, then be fined a huge sum, large enough to bankrupt them, then be horsewhipped through the streets as jeering taxpayers pelt them with all manner of rotten fruit and vegetables (which should be paid for by said offenders, given the ridiculous food prices these days).
