Consumer Alert - Food Contamination
I love chicken pot pies, but I'm not eating them any more. Con-Agra Foods has, apparently, been warned by several state health departments that its Banquet brand of chicken pot pie might be responsible for several cases of salmonella. The company's reaction? The pies are safe "if cooked properly," whatever that means.
Dave Daigle with the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed Tuesday that the agency is tracking a large salmonella outbreak with cases in several states.Don't the authorities, who spend so much time monitoring our email, our phone conversations, even our fucking tee-shirts, have the wherewithal to order the company to comply with basic health and safety regulations? Like inspecting their goods before shipping and pulling anything contaminated off the market? Sheesh!

In February, the CDC linked ConAgra's peanut butter, including Peter Pan, to the illnesses of more than 625 people in 47 states.
ConAgra resumed shipping Peter Pan in August. The company faces several lawsuits filed by people who said they became ill after eating Peter Pan.
