Another must read article by Paul B. Farrell

The lead into Paul's article:

"Yes, we're dummies. You. Me. All 300 million of us. Clueless. We should be ashamed. We're obsessed about the slogans and rituals of "democracy," distracted by the campaign, polls, debates, rhetoric, half-truths and outright lies. McCain? Obama? Sorry to pop your bubble folks, but it no longer matters who's president."

Paul mentions Naomi Klein's book, "Shock Doctrine: the Rise of Disaster Capitalism", and points out 14 reasons why main street (you and me) are loosing while Wall Street is sabatoging our democracy. Or better put, why our democracy is now a joke.

I am convinced that Obama will have a decisive win on Nov 4, however I am not convinced yet that he will be allowed to win. But even if he does win, he will either have to throw these bastards into jail or he is going to have formidable forces arrayed against him sabatoging everything he tries to do. If he can't do it, or even worse, bows to it, then our American experiment in democracy is over.

Read Paul's article. Spread it around, and get mad and vote and make sure your vote counts!

Great article; I hadn't previously read anything by Mr. Farrell.
A short reply:
Yes, the corporations control America;
Yes, the bailout goes to the folks who caused the problem;
Yes, we're dummies for putting up with this;
Yes, I agree with most of the main points made by Mr. Farrell;
No, the capitalists didn't plan the meltdown - they're really not very bright, just incredibly greedy and opportunistic;
No, we need to make sure that it does matter who gets elected.
We need to elect Obama and immediately apply pressure to reverse the insanity. This struggle won't be for the faint-hearted; it will be exhilarating. Some of you fossils might remember that we stopped the war in Vietnam.
Oops, I said this would be short.

this fossil remembers. and i'm so proud that all 3 members of my family will be casting votes for obama (daughter is 18). we're all going to vote together the morning of the 4th. and then sit glued in front of the tv the rest of the day and night i s'pose. well, mr. sgtg will be glued. i'll probably be ranting a lot and he'll make me leave the room.

Well Steelybob, I don't know if the capitalist actively and maliciously planned the economic meltdown or not but I have to agree with you, there was one hell of a lot of greed and opportunism at work. And the greed rose to the level of not just wanting a lot, but of wanting it all.

And I think our best hope lies with Obama while McCain represents absolutely no hope at all, just more of the same.

And I fear for Obama to seal his victory, he'll have to win by 20-30 points. I think the Repiglicans are going to pull out all the stops to make sure Obama is not allowed to win. We'll have to pull out one more stop to come out on top. Get everyone you know to vote.

What makes a difference is that Obama could start us down a left path. Could. Obama and this Congress will not give you left, what they could give is the allowance for some more left movement. Removing the boot from our neck is a generational struggle.

Good points Chuck! And I should have added above about the capitalists planning the meltdown is that they definitely lobbied for the removal of any and all regulations and against any new regulations. They didn't want any government interference or oversight on anything they were doing and that was deliberate.

I think we've analyzed this correctly. It's unlikely that the capitalists planned the meltdown. There's no doubt that they planned the deregulation that made it possible.
Reflecting again on Mr. Farrell's article, I don't think he really believes that there's no difference in who becomes president. I don't believe that he thinks that it's all over for us. If it's all over, why bother writing and enumerating all of the ways we've been screwed? I think the article was designed to make us angry, and determined to do something about it.
