Politics: Jesse Helms
Well, well, well. It appears that there is one person in the state of North Carolina who has decency and dignity and is possessed of moral and ethical standards. Raw Story tells us that one L.F. Eason, an employee of the North Carolina state Standards Laboratory, refused to have flags lowered to half-mast to honor the nasty old bigot who died July 4th.
When told to resign or do the honours, Mr. Eason chose to resign, ending a career of some 29 years with the Department of Agriculture. Kudos, Mr. Eason!
Helms, an ancient, bigoted, racist homophobe, deserves to have all flags replaced with toilet paper for 24 hours as a mark of his fellow-citizens' esteem, or lack thereof, for him. Let Mother Jones tell you why.
Our favourite advice columnist, Dan Savage, has a few choice words for the not-so-dearly departed also.
Meanwhile, Richard Prince, over at the Maynard Institute, points out
how African-American journalists view the passing of Helms, and alerts us to the fact that two truly scummoid quasi-human troglodytes from Helms' vast number of such, heh, confederates are working for John McCain. Isn't that special?
Doesn't anyone remember that this corrupt little thug threatened the life of a sitting U.S. President? Don't most people get arrested by the Secret Service for even thinking such a thing?
